Building Relationship

Over the past few years I have been on an amazing spiritual journey to get to know God in a more personal way. From this journey, I was led to write my new book, Building Relationship: It’s About More Than Going to Church.

What does it mean to be in relationship with God? Did you know that you could be sitting in church for years saved, singing on the choir, ushering, leading worship and not be in relationship with Him? You could very much be “in church” but not in relationship. What’s the difference? I’m glad you asked!

Relationship is a lifestyle. It is the posture of our heart. It’s who we are and what we do every day — not just on Sundays. It’s spending time at home studying our Word and connecting with God through prayer; not out of duty but out of desire. When you are in relationship with someone you want to talk to them on a regular basis. You want to spend quality time with them. You yearn to be in their presence.

Being in relationship with God causes you to do and not do things because you want to honor Him with your whole life. It comes with revelation and conviction from God that makes you strive to please Him more than man. It provokes you to do the right things in public and in private because you are living your life for an audience of one; the applause from man means nothing if God isn’t well pleased with us.

Perhaps you already have a relationship with God, but it’s not as strong as it used to be. It’s not enough to just build a relationship, we have to do the work to maintain it. One of my favorite chapters in this book is Chapter 8: “Endure.” Just like in a natural relationship, we have to be intentional about keeping the spark in it. We have to remember our “why” and stir ourselves up when we start getting complacent, distracted, or discouraged throughout the course of it.

I believe this new book is going to be a blessing to all who read it; whether you’ve been “in church” for two days or two decades.

P.S. My new book will be released on 06-30-2021.

Blessings,
