Zoom Out to See the Full Picture

When hitting a milestone, it is normal to find yourself doing a little self-reflection. During that time of looking over your life, you may find yourself getting sad thinking about what you haven’t yet accomplished. You know, not making the amount of money you thought you would be making. Not being married yet. Not having the big house with the white picket fence. Not having the businesses started. Not having the books written. Not having the number of kids that you desired to have. The list can go on and on.

While there’s nothing wrong with self-reflection, I want to encourage you to not ONLY look at what you don’t yet have. That is depressing, discouraging, and not the full story.

I turned 40 two days ago, and - like many others - I found myself thinking about the things I thought I would have accomplished by now. However, I then began to consider all that I have been blessed with. I remembered the full story. I zoomed out and saw the whole picture instead of being overly focused on a part of it.

Did you catch that?! You have to ZOOM OUT to appreciate ALL that your life has been because when you are zoomed in looking at one part - you can’t see the full picture. That zoomed in part is being taken out of context.

So, as I sit back looking over my life - I am now full of gratitude instead of regret. I am now embracing this new decade instead of resenting it. If you are nearing a milestone, please don’t forget to appreciate all the beauty in your life so that you can celebrate and appreciate the new chapter that you are walking into.

Make it exciting. Challenge yourself in new ways. Get a new hobby. Set new goals or get more intentional about meeting existing ones. Whatever you do, keep your excitement about life because each day is a blessing and an opportunity to walk in your God-given purpose on this earth.

Blessings,

Danielle Fennell
