Do You Trust God?

If you’re like me, your automatic response to that question was “yes” or “of course.” That’s what we’re quick to say, but is that really the truth of the matter?

See, I think often times we trust God for a matter to work out the way we desire for it to. However, if something doesn’t go the way we hoped for it to go, we feel like God let us down. We then default to doing things in our own strength with the reasoning that it’s the only way to make what we need (or think that we need) happen. Why are we like this?

Who told us that God had to do it the way we wanted it to be done for it to be right?

For example, we say that we aren’t going to keep pursuing that man/woman, job, investment opportunity that looks perfect to us but doesn’t seem to be falling into place. We say that we are going to pray and if it’s meant to be, God will make a situation occur for us to connect with that person or to receive the job offer/opportunity. Then, when it doesn’t happen, we think God let us down. We resentfully feel like we should have taken matters into our own hands. We think we should have been more tenacious and persistent. However, we never seem to consider the fact that, despite how perfect a person or situation seemed, it may not have been who or what God had for us.

God knows what we don’t know.

God sees what we don’t see.

We have to stop relying so much on these natural eyes, that can be deceiving, and start back looking through our spiritual peepers. We must start back fasting, praying and reading our Word so that we will be on one accord with God’s will for our lives. In doing so, we can avoid the disappointment and confusion that comes from leaning into our own understanding instead of trusting the all-knowing God that we serve (Proverbs 3:5-6).

With love,
