The Rebuild

Have you ever seen a building torn down only to have the exact same establishment rebuilt in its place? I remember driving by a construction site and wondering what new business was going to be erected in that spot, only to be surprised when the same business reopened. I recall being confused about why they would demolish the building instead of just doing a few renovations to it.

Then, I realized that perhaps the condition of the building was in such bad shape that a surface makeover simply wouldn’t be sufficient. Perhaps, the structure of the building was so worn that it needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.

That construction project gave me a revelation about my life. The last season of my life was beyond difficult. I found myself being challenged in every area: my job, my health, my finances, and relationships. I felt completely broken. I couldn’t understand why every area of my life seemed to be crumbling at my feet.

I felt like giving up at times - you know, just curling up in a corner or pulling the covers over my head and staying there. As tempting as it was to lay down and quit, instead I prayed and asked God for strength and guidance to make it through that season.

In Jeremiah 29:11 God assures us that “I know the thoughts (or plans) that I have toward you…thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” See, the aforementioned building was torn down but the plan was not to leave it in a state of destruction. The expected end was to have it be rebuilt and that’s the same way it is with us. God may allow us to go through some things and allow us to be torn down in some areas but it’s to bring us to an expected end. Remember, all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

The rebuild allowed me to come back a stronger, wiser, renewed version of myself. I was reconstructed with a deeper level of faith and an understanding of who God called me to be in this life.

I want to encourage anyone out there that may be going through a season of brokenness. If you hang in there, seek God, and allow him to direct your path, there will be a rebuild in your life that will produce a better version of yourself.

With love,
