Stepping Out on Faith (Introduction)

Welcome to my blog! This is an inspirational, faith-based blog that I hope will encourage, inspire, and empower anyone who reads it. Starting a blog is not something that I ever imagined I would do, but this season of my life is all about stepping out on faith.  I know that some people prefer to say stepping out in faith – but I prefer the former. The only thing that is carrying me is my faith right now.  I don’t have finances, resources, a platform or anything else to step out on – only my faith.

A lot of times in life we don’t step out and pursue our passions, dreams or callings because we feel like we don’t have the “it” factor that other people seem to have. We feel like we’re not special, smart, or popular enough.  I know for me, whenever someone suggested that I self-publish my upcoming poetry book, I became absolutely terrified at the thought. Who me? Was often my response.  I thought I needed a platform. I thought my network of people was too small — so often, we disqualify ourselves.

We’ll eagerly see the potential in everyone else and cheer them on but are critical and dismissive of ourselves.

Ironically enough, my motto as a writer and Christian is “May the words I write and the life I live reflect the God I serve”.  One day, I sat and began to think about that. 2 Timothy, 1:7 tells us that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, so how was my walking in fear reflecting Him? I had to remind myself to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).   Now, that’s not to say that we will never feel intimidated or fearful about doing something, BUT we shouldn’t allow that fear to dominate and hinder us in life.  Psalm 56:3 is a scripture that I love and often meditate on, it states “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” That scripture reminds me that yes, on my own I have limited abilities, but through God I can do ALL things.  The things that I am too shy and timid to do on my own.  The things that I am not qualified to do on my own. The things that would make me cower in fear on my own. The things that would otherwise not even be an option on my own.

If there is something that you desire or feel called to do, I encourage you to step out on faith.  Don’t worry about the naysayers. Don’t worry about who doesn’t believe in or support you. Don’t worry about platforms and resources, connections or networks.  Trust God and don’t allow the spirit of fear to stop you.

With love,
