Listening to the Right Voice
Hello everyone! I haven’t added a post in a while because I’ve been a little busy. I recently released my first book of poetry titled Crack a Window: Homes and Humans Need Ventilation. I often say that I didn’t write my book, but it was birthed out of me. My book takes you on a journey that starts out in frustration, discouragement, and stagnancy but ends in a place of assurance, freedom, and purpose. In order to arrive at my current destination, I had to learn to tune my ears to the right voice.
I have come to realize just how very important it is to protect my ears, and I want to encourage you to do the same. I went through a season of hearing a lot of negativity being spoken around me, and I allowed it to seep inside and cause discouragement.
Sometimes we have to stop and re-evaluate just whose voice we are giving an audience to, whether it be the enemy’s or that of a hater.
It’s so important for us to read and meditate on the word of God so that we can confidently stand in who He says we are. With all of the negative voices out here it can be easy to start listening to them and — if we aren’t careful — find ourselves walking around with our head down believing them. We have to make sure that we regularly reaffirm ourselves with the word of God so that other voices will be a mere mutter compared to His voice booming in our spirit. His booming voice telling us that we are the head and not the tail. That we are above and not beneath. That we are the lender and not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28).
We can’t control what other people say or the thoughts the enemy sends our way, but we can choose whether or not to listen to them. Let us not entertain the wrong voice. Instead, let’s turn up the speakers and amplify who God says we are!
The topic of affirmation and working with the youth has been heavy on my heart lately. So, this past Sunday I put together a youth service where the theme was Reclaiming Our Identity. I read the poem “Impregnated” from my new book, which talks about being pregnant with purpose. The young ladies wore t-shirts that read “More Than Pretty” by Erica Campbell and talked about who they are at the core (see a picture below!). They decreed and declared that their value is not determined by their outward appearance nor other people’s opinions of them, but they are who God says they are. Since He created us, he’s the only one who knows our true capabilities.
Be intentional about speaking life and consistently reaffirming yourself in the word of God concerning who you are and what you can do!
With love,
Danielle Fennell
